The Sanderling Beach Club - Paul Rudolph
/I had the amazing pleasure of visiting and shooting the Sanderling Beach Club a few years ago with SAF ( Sarasota Architectural Foundation ). In the early 50s the area south of Point of Rocks on Siesta Key was mostly uninhabited but by 1958, 67 properties had been built - the beginning of the community, of Sanderling Beach Club. Local architect Paul Rudolph designed the clubhouse, cabanas and observation tower, all completed in 1974 giving beach access and amenities to 110 property owners. The cabanas are so quaint, each occupant decorating and adding requirements such as fridges, sinks and showers.
The painted white facades and undulating roofs against the blue sky are stunning, Sarasota School of Architecture at it's best!
