Mid-Century Architecture

This town is packed with the most amazing examples of mid-century houses, many by the world-famous Paul Rudolph who made Sarasota his home for many years. This first photo is of Emily in the Umbrella House, the coolest  of his houses here on Lido Shores. Worth a visit!!
SAF
Sarasota Architectural Foundation has done wonders to increase the awareness of the Sarasota School of Architecture Movement, They orchestrated the installation of the full scale replica of the Walker Guest House, on the grounds of the Ringling Museum, which had a fantastic run for two years. We had the honor of being involved and Dale made the furniture for the interior. SAF also organize the yearly Sarasota Mod Weekend, celebrating various architects with house tours, parties and lectures. Nov 9-11 2018 will be celebrating the centennial of architect Paul Rudolph.
My good friend Emily modeled some 50's clothing from Canned Ham Vintage and we showcased the house in a fun way, directed by Dan Snyder ( the brainchild behind the project ). The photos became the basis of a wonderful 10x10 event. Victor Lundy is another product of the Sarasota School of Architecture. Last year's Mod weekend celebrated him and his works, including the Blue Pagoda and the Lutheran Church pictured here.
